Product Information
Platinum gives more brilliance to the sound and also a quicker response. The riser, also known as chimney, and even more so the front edge of the embouchure hole have the predominant influence on the sound quality and response of the flute and for this reason the special characteristics of the material used for the edge on which the air column splits and actually produces the sound have a far greater effect then further down along the tube. To maximize the benefit of the risers' qualities Mateki has perfected a way to solder the lip plate onto the chimney from the sides so that the chimney is level with the lip plate and brings it right up to the sound making edge. Other makers solder the lip plate to the top of the chimney and this takes away much of the benefit of the material for the riser being the actual edge on which the sound is created.
