Product Information
Known in Japan as G10, due to its gold content of 10%, this alloy also contains 20% palladium and of course silver. This material was inspired by the practise of adding gold to the bronze used for making Japanese temple bells. To represent its true composition we call it "Pallaurgentium", a combination of the Latin names of the metals it contains. It is not surprising that it has a bell like character and a brilliant yet deep and penetrating sound with tremendous response and flexibility. The riser, also known as chimney, and even more so the front edge of the embouchure hole have a predominant influence on the sound quality and response of the flute and for this reason the special characteristics of the material used for the edge on which the air column splits and actually produces the sound have a far greater effect then further down along the tube. To maximise the benefit of the risers' qualities Mateki has perfected a way to solder the lip plate onto the chimney from the sides so that the chimney is level with the lip plate and brings it right up to the souond making edge. The choice of 24ct gold ads some extra sweetness and the dark warmth pure only gold is known to produce.
